Hey Reader,

I have something for you to try that I think you might like.

I actually meant to send it out sooner, but this week totally got away from me with trying to find a rental home in another city in another state (we are moving in 4 weeks). It's been a little chaotic. So I'm popping in right before getting on a plane to fly to what will be our new town so we can look at some of those prospective homes.

Anyway, I'm sharing the second core practice in my Movement for a Healthy Core program with you. It's a standing core practice and it's lots of fun. Just click on the link to try it out.

If you need a little more convincing, here's what one person currently going through the Healthy Core program said about this class:

"I enjoyed this one because it showed me where my standing poses are after doing so little yoga for a while...my half moon is a little shaky but triangle and side angle ok! And these poses with the clap are no joke!!"

Personally, I love standing core work.

Conventional core work tends to rely heavily on poses that require weight-bearing on your hands -- planks and table balances.

Table Balance with opposite leg/arm extended
Table Balance with knee tuck
Table balance hover
Plank with knee to chest.
Plank holds.
Plank slides.
Plank with one leg up.
Plank with shoulder taps.
Side plank.

And planks are cool.
But not everyone can do them.
Some people have wrist drama, diastasis recti, shoulder stuff, low back discomfort.
These are just some of the reasons your body might revolt against the tyranny of planks.

Thankfully, there are lots of other ways to work your core muscles.
And personally, I think they're just as effective if not more interesting for your body and your brain.
I've identified 6 categories for hands-free core work:
Supine
Standing
Balancing
Seated
Forearms
Twists

I approached my Movement for a Healthy Core program with these categories in mind.
Each week, you do 6 practices focusing on each of these categories.
Each week lays the foundation for the following week so you are building strength, stability, and mobility progressively.
No planks needed.

If you like core work that is strong, effective, and creative, you will LOVE my Movement for a Healthy Core program.
Registration closes this Sunday, May 5th and won't open again until 2025.

Naomi

I combine playful, powerful movement practices with the science of habit change to make it easier for busy moms to get moving every day. I frequently write about the intersection of mom life, feminism, diet culture, and the unrealistic standards we hold ourselves to as women. I am passionate about helping moms move more freely in their bodies and feel more at home in their skin.
